Miami Dolphins Ice Dye

The Dolphins palette is one of our absolute favorites to ice dye because of how beautifully aqua and orange interact with ice. Aqua is a compound color in Procion MX chemistry — it's made by combining cyan and green pigments, and when ice melts slowly over the powder, those components separate. You get streaks of teal, seafoam, and turquoise all from a single dye application.

Orange Procion MX is equally fascinating on ice. It splits into golden yellow and coral-red components, creating a sunset gradient effect that's impossible to achieve with any other dyeing technique. When the aqua and orange meet on the fabric, the transition zone produces unexpected warm greens and amber tones — colors you'd never plan but that perfectly capture the tropical Miami vibe.

For Dolphins pieces, we often use a half-and-half application: aqua concentrated on one side, orange on the other, with a deliberate overlap zone in the middle. The ice does the rest, creating that gorgeous gradient that looks like a Miami sunset reflected in the ocean. Every single piece comes out different, which is exactly the point.
