White Ice Dye Bucket Hat
Hand-dyed by Maria in York, Pennsylvania · one at a time since 2015
This is an undyed white cotton bucket hat, sold as a blank rather than a finished piece. It comes one size fits most, with a 2 inch brim, a 3.5 inch crown, a hat sizing range of 7 1/2 to 7 5/8, and a pair of stitched eyelets on each side.
A hat dyes differently from a flat garment. The crown is already sewn into a curve and the brim is topstitched in tight rings, so meltwater runs around those seams instead of straight through them. That tends to leave the brim banded and the crown more open, which is a look you cannot plan in advance.
These blanks are stocked in my studio in York, Pennsylvania, and they are the same ones I dye myself. After you dye and rinse the hat, wash it cold, then reshape it and let it air dry so the brim keeps its curve.
