Ice Dye Short Sleeve Tee
Hand-dyed by Maria in York, Pennsylvania · one at a time since 2015
This is an undyed white blank, not a finished piece: a Gildan Softstyle T-shirt (64000) in sizes Small through 4X. It is 4.5 oz per square yard, 100 percent ring-spun cotton in 30 singles, with a modern classic fit, a narrow rib collar, and taped neck and shoulders.
I stock this tee for dyeing because the surface is all cotton. Procion MX dye bonds to cotton fiber and will not take on polyester, so a full-cotton blank picks up color evenly instead of leaving pale patches. The high stitch density that makes this shirt a smooth printing surface also keeps dye edges crisp where a fold holds against melting ice.
These blanks are stocked in my studio in York, Pennsylvania, and they are the same ones I dye myself. There is a tear-away label if you are relabeling. After you dye and rinse the shirt, wash it cold and inside out, then hang or tumble dry low.
